Fill out the form and attach your resume to apply to the City of Waterloo’s Home Support Services Brokered Worker program for Home Maintenance support.
Please read the following position summary carefully.
Brokered workers assist individuals to live safely in their own homes by assisting with the upkeep of the person’s property. Tasks include grass cutting, snow shoveling, raking leaves, pulling weeds, cleaning eavestroughs, and minor home repairs that do not require a licenced tradesperson to complete (i.e. changing a light bulb, caulking, etc). All of the individuals requiring assistance are located within the City of Waterloo and meet Home Support Service’s eligibility criteria to participate in this program.
Brokered workers are self-employed and are not City of Waterloo employees. Brokered workers are paid directly by the homeowner.
Rate of pay is $22/hour when the homeowner provides the equipment. When a worker brings their own motorized equipment (i.e. snow blower, lawn mower) the rate of pay is $27/hour.
Commitment: Workers can decide how many people they want to help and what tasks they want to do. For example, they can choose to help only with removing snow or just cutting grass.
Workers must commit to the entire season. Grass season is April to October, snow season is November to the end of March.
In accordance with city bylaw, snow removal brokered workers must be able to clear the driveway within 24 hours after the snow stops falling.
Brokered workers completing grass cutting or snow removal must be at least 14 years of age, complete duties outside the home only, and submit a Criminal Record & Judicial Matters check, at their own cost.
Brokered workers assisting with odd jobs inside the home must be at least 18 years of age and are required to submit a Vulnerable Sector police records check, at their own cost. Please do not complete this portion of the application process unless asked to do so by Home Support staff.
