Apply for a Community Improvement Grant


Before you apply:

1. Confirm eligibility

  • Your property is fully within the Uptown CIP Project Area.
  • You are a property owner, tenant, or authorized agent.
  • No project works have started that you wish to claim under this application.

2. Book a pre-application discussion

  • email cip@waterloo.ca to schedule a pre-consultation with Economic Development staff
  • the meeting will confirm program and project eligibility and available funding
  • we will review your proposed scope of work, including if any permits or approvals may be required as part of your supporting documents (IPPW - Planning and Building)

3. Prepare your supporting documents

  • Photos of existing conditions
  • Concept drawings / plans (where applicable)
  • Cost estimate(s) from bona fide contractors / consultants
  • Copies of approved permits (where applicable)
  • Studies / audits (if required)
  • Any heritage property documentation (if applicable)

Applications are reviewed on a first-come, first-served basis and are subject to available funding approved by Council. Total grant support (excluding the Major Activity Grant Program) is capped at $25,000 per property. Tax Increment Equivalent Grants (TIEGs) under the Major Activity Grant Program cannot be combined with other Uptown CIP grants.
