2026 Stewardship activity participant sign-up

The City of Waterloo’s Pollinator Working Group organize opportunities to enhance natural areas to create pollinator habitat in city parks. Join us at our up-coming community stewardship workdays from spring to fall.  

Help turn Bechtel Park into a paradise for native pollinators!

Lend a hand to plant and maintain native plants and help remove invasive ones.

  • Spring to summer, help expand and prepare the wildflower plot for a fall planting.
  • Learn how we are managing invasive buckthorn using mechanical methods.
  • Take home a native plant or wildflower seeds and learn about native pollinators and habitat!
Meadow Maintenance:
  • Thursdays from 4 pm to 6 pm: June 4, July 2, Sept 3
  • Thursdays from 6 pm to 8 pm: Aug 6
Community Planting: 

 

 Need to know information:

  •  Location: Within Bechtel Park head to the tennis court parking lot, walk cross the park road to trail heading up the hill to SE corner.  Project area can also be accessed via Bridgeport Public School, 59 Bridge St W.
  • Most activities are geared to participants 14 years and up. Youth under age 18 must be supervised by a parent or adult guardian.
  • Participants wear closed-toe footwear, long pants, cloth gloves. Bring your own bottled water. 
  • Refreshments, all hand tools and cloth gloves provided by City of Waterloo.
  • Moderate physical activity is required such as bending, digging, pushing wheelbarrows, trimming with hand pruners or loppers, and lifting up to 20 lbs and walking on uneven terrain and long grass within natural areas. 
  • Stewardship activities will be cancelled or rescheduled if there is risk of thunderstorms, heavy rain or high winds.  Participants who signed up in advance will be notified via email in the event of severe weather.

To simplify the sign-in process on the day of the event, we encourage each participating adult to complete the online form below (Informed consent & photo consent).  A copy of your responses will be provided automatically upon submission of the form.
